Donald T. Noga – Chief Executive Officer

Donald Ted Noga was born in Rochester New York in 1947. He graduated from St. Stanislaus in 1961 and went on to attend Edison Tech, where he studied electronics and electricity, and was the lead tenor sax player in the school band. (He also played clarinet and now the keyboard.)

Don considered becoming a band leader at the time, and formed a band that some in Rochester may still remember — The Twilights, with Don Noga on the accordion leading the players. But duty called, and Don found himself in the United States Army from 1966 through 1967, serving his country.

Training and experience

On returning to civilian life, Don entered the electronics profession, working under a licensed electrician, Joseph Rebis. He worked and trained at Bausch & Lomb as an electrician and then as an electronic technician working on vacuum coaters and high voltage power supplies. Don Brown, Ron Miller, and Bill Smith were his mentors during those years, until Don became involved in the security business through a relative, Stanley Wolak.

With the help of Bob’s mentoring and instruction, and the mentoring of his cousin Vincent, a General Dynamics engineer who was the first to get him interested in electronics, Don quickly learned the ins and outs of the security business, and eventually he and his best friend at the time, Stan Chizuk, formed their own small business, Current Electric Company.

Don’s technical expertise grew in power and authority as he picked up one certification after another: he received a Master License by the City of Rochester electrical licensing board for ; he’s received electrical code training from Rochester Gas and Electric, and training from Rochester Electrical Inspector Association, and more, culminating in Don’s election for seven years in a row as Vice President of the Upstate New York Alarm Dealers Association.

DTN

As Don began doing more and more security, burglar, and fire alarm systems work, and as the firm increasingly devoted itself focus to providing top-quality security devices and services to businesses and residential homes, it became clear that it was time to redefine the business to acknowledge its fresh focus. Soon a new business was formed with a new name: DTN Security, after the initials of Don’s name. Since then the firm has gone on to service hundreds of clients large and small in the Rochester and surrounding areas.

And as the business grew, so did Don’s studies and honors: he went on to master manufacturers’ training by Honeywell, Simplex, Ademco, Napco, Firelight, Silent Knight, FBI Detection systems, Bosch, GE, ITI and DSC; received National Burglar and Fire Alarm Association testing and training; received New York Burglar and Fire Alarm Association training; and finally was licensed by the Department of the State of New York to provide fire and burglar alarm system installations including closed-circuit TV, access control, and environmental protection.

The skyrocketing popularity of DTN Security among the public and friends is also a testimony to Don’s stature as an innovative business person, involved with groups ranging from the Rochester Institute of Technology to the Rochester Business Alliance and Webster Chamber of Commerce and more. Don has completed courses at RIT, received coaching from the Brockport Small Business Development Center, attended seminars and training by the then Rochester Chamber of Commerce, and completed several Dale Carnegie, Tom Hopkins and Brian Tracy business courses, as well as mastered computer technology courses at New Horizons and Element K.

Don’s personal hobbies originally included model railroading and stamp and coin collecting, but over time he’s come to embrace the arts more generally, and expresses his creativity in wood-working, carving, water painting, drawing, and the new digital art made possible by computer-enhanced photography and Photoshop.

Don The Man

He’s also a strong fan of target shooting (not hunting), and boating — Don has been the owner of several small boats ranging from twelve to thirty foot cruisers and from 1965 to 2001 was the owner of Irondequoit Bay’s biggest Mississippi paddle river boat.

The main love of his life today, apart from his wife Lillian and his fascination with effective cutting-edge security systems, are his two Yorkies.
